Creating a new technology-enabled future for a major Australian government agency

In 2003 a major federal agency, responsible for the distribution of services and benefits to millions of Australians, embarked on an ambitious yet critical program of technology upgrade.

The program was designed to address critical operational issues and position the agency to meet the ever-expanding suite of service delivery challenges in the online age. To succeed, the program needed robust yet cost-effective governance that could deal with the scope and technical challenges that inevitably present themselves over the life of a program of this scale.

Terranovate was engaged to provide independent advice to senior stakeholders and program leaders regarding the governance, management and execution of the program.

Terranovate’s substantial contribution to the program’s success was delivered through a series of reviews of alignment and governance undertaken in close consultations with senior executives.

Input was then provided over an extended period to both the project leadership and to the individual project teams.

The program was completed on time and on budget in June 2008. It is now regarded as a model of excellence in the governance of complex Federal Government agency improvement programs.
